The NSW Blues come into game 2 of the women’s State of Origin series with a 1-0 lead having beaten Queensland 32-12 in Brisbane a fortnight ago. On the eve of Magic Round it was great to see the women’s game take centre stage and entertain a massive crowd. The Blues have history of winning up in Brisbane as they did last year, however they ended up losing the series when they lost the following two games. The Blues will be hoping they can wrap up the series in Sydney on Thursday night, whilst the Maroons will be aiming to turn the tide just as they did in 2024.
For NSW they had a number of attacking threats that could all capitalise on the teams strong overall performance. The outside backs were lethal and plenty of credit deserves to go to the young halfback Jesse Southwell who was pulling the strings and dominated with her kicking game. Captain, Isabelle Kelly, also put in an unbelievable performance scoring a try and setting up two others. You can bet that the Queensland side will have done their homework on how to shut her down ahead of game 2.
Queensland will be leaning on all of their experience to bring the side back into the series. Ali Brigginshaw was uncharacteristically quiet on the night and will be looking to stamp her mark on the game from the opening set. Mackenzie Weale was one of the few forwards from Queensland to dent the line with her strong attacking runs and she has forced her way into the starting line up after coming from the bench in game 1.
Game 2 is set to be a sell out at Sydneys Allianz Stadium on Thursday night. The Blues will be hoping to clinch the series and come into the game as favourites, but you can’t write off the Queensland Maroons. The Queenslanders will be preparing for an ambush and will won’t go down without a fight.
