Hammy Goodman might be one of the most recognisable faces within the sporting media landscape. For years he has been part of the hugely successful marketing campaign ‘The Grubs’ cricket club with Sportsbet, but he is also part of the furniture on the Bloke in a Bar podcast. This interview dives into his personal sporting journey and where his love for cricket, rugby league and AFL comes from. As well as speaking about his new passion project, ‘Win, Learn or Draw’ a Wests Tigers themed podcast he has launched for the 2025 season. 

Hammy Goodman describes how he always had a love for sport when he was growing up. His father was a high level cricketer and harboured ambitions for Hammy to follow in his footsteps. However, despite all the time spent in the nets together Hammy struggled to develop the skills necessary to compete at the same level as his dad, but he did gain a pure passion for the game. He continues to play today and his real life experience of being part of your average sunday league cricket team served as inspiration for ‘The Grubs’ media campaign which put his face on our screens all around Australia. 

Aside from Cricket, Hammy has a deep passion for rugby league and AFL. His beloved Wests Tigers and Sydney Swans have taken him on two vastly different fan journeys in the last 10 to 20 years. Hammy speaks about the despair of following the Swans to four grand final appearances without success. Whilst the Tigers have been a far less hopeful team to follow in years gone by. With that being said, he is determined to believe that his Tigers are on the verge of turning it all around and is convinced they will show improvement in 2025. 

Through his work with Sportsbet, Hammy has been able to travel and follow teams all around the world. Some of his highlights include dressing up as Mentos in the 2019 Ashes series which got him recognised by the Australian cricket team who then invited him out to join them in their celebrations when they won that test match. His work has always been authentic as he captures the hearts and minds of everyday sports fans all across Australia. 

His new podcast called Win, Learn or Draw is a Wests Tigers fan project with his co-host Elliot Mort in which they are determined to put a positive spin on the Wests Tigers every week, regardless of the performance. Sick and tired of how mainstream media portrays the Wests Tigers, Hammy is keen to counteract their negative bias with some positivity and humour.
